Schools Workshops: Researching the First World War

During the centenary of the First World War, we collaborated supported an extended Kent WW1 in Schools Commemoration Project. This project engaged with 22 schools and 1,600 participants, 95% of which were non-selective. Over 90% expressed an increased interest in the First World War after taking part in the programme.

In 2022 we worked with two schools in Folkestone schools on the development of Walking with Ghosts. Secondary school students learned how to undertake primary research using the British Newspaper Archive and local archival resources and then contributed to the material which was used in the artwork. Associate Artist, Bille Penfold also ran poetry workshops with students exploring creative writing in the context of conflict.
